Google Translate can soon help you practice your pronunciation

By Raymond Saw April 30, 2026

Google Translate is turning twenty this year. Having started off as just a little experiment by Google, it’s now a necessary tool for many, especially those travelling abroad.

As part of the celebrations, the Google Translate team is rolling out what is perhaps the most requested feature: pronunciation practice. On the Translate app for Android, Google is rolling out a new tool that lets you not just ask and understand the context behind what you’re translating, but also repeat the phrase and have it analyse your speech for isntant feedback.

This feature might already be familiar to those of you using language learning apps like Duolingo. Duolingo’s speaking practices prompt you to repeat words and phrases while also translating them, though in Google’s case this pronunciation feature is perhaps more for impromptu translations such as when you need to figure out how to ask someone directions.

Unfortunately, at time of writing this new Google Translate pronunciation feature is only available for Android users in the US and India, and only covers English, Spanish and Hindi for now. However, it shouldn’t be long before it starts rolling out to more regions with more languages.
