FYI: YouTube is still clamping down on Premium Family Plan users not in the same household

Late last year, YouTube made headlines when users started reporting emails from the streaming platform about their Premium family membership getting paused. This was usually because they detected that you weren’t actually in the same household as the plan owner.
Well nearly one year later, it seems that YouTube is at it again. Our own colleague received an email stating that their YouTube Premium family membership will be paused, as YouTube states that all members in their Premium Family plan must be in the same household as the plan owner. Usually, this means being connected to the same WiFi as the plan owner.

The requirement of needing to be in the ‘same household’ has been around in their terms and conditions for ages now, but it seemed that YouTube only really started enforcing it in September last year. After some backlash, there was a dip in users reporting getting the warning, but it seems that YouTube might be moving back to stricter enforcement now.
If you do get the warning, ignoring it may lead to your YouTube Premium membership being paused within 14 days. Once that happens, you’ll still be part of the YouTube Premium Family group, but will no longer get any of the YouTube Premium benefits that you’re paying for.
