The Ford Bronco EV That Was Revealed in China Might Be Coming to Malaysia Next

Ford recently unveiled two new electrified versions of the Ford Bronco in China, including a full EV and an extended-range model (EREV). These models will be produced under the Jiangling-Ford (JMC-Ford) joint venture and are set to complement the existing petrol-powered Bronco lineup. With Malaysia being a key market for Ford in the region, the question now is whether these new models will arrive locally.
Ford Bronco NEV

The Ford Bronco EV models align with China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) drive. NEVs cover a broad category of EVs, plug-in hybrid EVs (PHEVs), extended-range EVs, and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). The new models are based on the internal combustion engine (ICE) Bronco, though they feature unique styling that mixes the rugged design of the original with elements from the more city-friendly Bronco Sport.
Ford Bronco EV Specifications

The Bronco EV measures 5,025mm long, 1,960mm wide, and 1,815mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,950mm. It weighs 2,630kg and uses a dual-motor all-wheel drive system, producing 130kW at the front and 202kW at the rear. The EV’s top speed is rated at 170km/h.
Powering the Ford Bronco EV is BYD’s Findreams 105.4kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade battery, the largest Blade battery BYD has developed so far. Ford is the first manufacturer to implement it, and it offers a driving range of up to 650km on a single charge.
Ford Bronco EREV Specifications

The Ford Bronco EREV also comes with dual motors – a 130kW motor up front and a 180kW motor at the rear – paired with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that serves as a range extender, producing 110kW. Its battery is a smaller 43.7kWh LFP Blade unit from BYD Findreams.
This setup allows the EREV to achieve an electric-only range of 220km and an overall driving range of up to 1,220km. Like the EV, its top speed is limited to 170km/h, though its lighter weight of 2,510kg gives it a slight edge in efficiency.
What Are the Chances of it Coming to Malaysia?

Both the Ford Bronco EV and EREV are slated for release in China in late 2025. As Ford strengthens its EV lineup, it remains to be seen whether Malaysia will be part of this rollout. If these models make their way here, they could potentially mark the beginning of Ford’s all-electric push in the country. This might make sense given that we only have a variety of Ford Ranger pickup trucks as well as the Ford Everest SUV.
At the recent Ford Ranger WildTrak 3.0L V6 Turbo Diesel launch event, I did hear inklings that Ford Malaysia might be bringing in an SUV either later this year or early 2026, though this information was passed during idle chatter rather than an announcement from a representative. Investigating the matter only led to a single online report, in which the details are still rather vague.
However, we did get an official response from Sime Darby Auto ConneXion on the matter, in which they’ve said:
At this juncture, we are unable to confirm the introduction of any upcoming models, including the EV series, in Malaysia. We appreciate the interest shown by the media and the public, and we will provide updates and new developments, if any.
Thank you for your continued support.

While there is no confirmation, not immediately shooting it down seems to indicate that there might be some truth to the matter, which of course is still subjected to cancellations as plans could simply change at any point. Regardless, we’ll report more on this as soon as information becomes available so stay tuned.
