ECRL fares announced, Gombak to Kota Bharu starts from RM125

East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) fares have officially been revealed, with a one-way Economy Class ticket from Gombak to Kota Bharu starting from RM125. The fares were announced by Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) CEO Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak at the Gombak Integrated Terminal today, after the fare structure was approved by the Cabinet on 16 October.
As previously reported, MRL had said that fares would be lower than airfares but slightly higher than bus fares. Passengers can pick between two travel options: a Transit service that stops at every station along the corridor, or an Express service that stops only at four major hubs—Gombak, KotaSAS, Kuala Terengganu, and Kota Bharu.
For the full 523km stretch from Gombak to Kota Bharu, tickets start from RM125 on the Transit service and RM147 on the Express train. Opting for the Express cuts travel time down to around four hours, compared to up to five hours on the all-stop Transit line. For the 378km journey between Gombak and Kuala Terengganu, fares start from RM95 for Transit and RM110 for Express. Shorter 209km trips connecting Gombak to KotaSAS in Kuantan begin at RM60 on Transit and RM68 on Express.

Keep in mind that these are baseline prices, as the ECRL will use dynamic pricing, meaning actual ticket costs will shift depending on travel time, demand, and seat availability. Several groups also qualify for concessions: children aged two to 12, senior citizens aged 60 and above, OKU cardholders, and government pensioners get 50% off, while students aged 13 to 24 receive a 40% discount.
As for tickets, official sales will open in mid-November 2026, ahead of the start of commercial operations on the Gombak to Kota Bharu route in mid-December 2026, subject to safety requirements and approvals. More details and the full timetable will be available on the official ECRL website.
