Dua Lipa is suing Samsung for USD15 million

By Raymond Saw May 11, 2026

Award winning pop singer Dua Lipa is taking legal action against Samsung. The artist is accusing the Korean giant of using her face without permission to sell their televisions, and is now suing for copyright infringement, trademark infringement and violation of her right of publicity.

In a court case filed in California, Dua Lipa highlights the multiple cases of Samsung TV boxes with Dua Lipa plastered across the packaging. It appears that Dua Lipa actually first found out about Samsung using her likeness in June last year, and has repeatedly asked Samsung to not use her image. The lawsuit however states that Samsung has been dismissive and callous to her, and that they continue to use her image on TV packaging.

Dua Lipa’s lawyers then make the argument that the copyright of the image used, taken backstage at Austin City Limits Festival in 2024, belonged to her. It later goes on to say that the illegal use of her image on Samsung TV boxes has led to potential customers purchasing them because they were fans of Dua Lipa, benefitting Samsung by making it seem she endorsed the product when she has not. She even included screenshots of fans who posted online that they bought these Samsung TVs because of her image.

Dua Lipa is now seeking at least USD15 million from Samsung, along with a permanent injunction prohibiting Samsung from continuing to infringe on her image rights. For more information on the lawsuit, you can click here to access the full court documents.
