CelcomDigi to provide emergency internet access at 15 flood evacuation centres

By Raymond Saw October 15, 2026

CelcomDigi has announced that it’s reinforcing its commitment to supporting Malaysians during the annual monsoon season, with the telco working with Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) and Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) to provide connectivity, rescue equipment and other assistance across six flood-prone states ahead of the monsoon season.

The telco is stepping up its flood preparedness efforts by providing internet connectivity at 15 temporary flood evacuation centres across Malaysia. The six states that CelcomDigi is partnering with MRA and MRC in include Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Johor, Pahang and Sabah.

According to CelcomDigi, the initiative is expected to benefit more than 3,400 households, with on-ground support capacity for approximately 42,000 people.

The 15 temporary evacuation centres, also known as Pusat Pemindahan Sementara (PPS), will be equipped with Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) units. This will allow flood victims to stay connected and access important information during emergencies.

Besides providing internet access at evacuation centres, CelcomDigi is supplying MRA with four-wheel-drive vehicles, rescue boats, mobile charging stations, water and jet pumps, and generators. Volunteers will also be involved in supporting relief operations.

The telco is also taking steps to protect its network infrastructure from flooding by elevating key network structures to reduce the risk of water damage to critical radio and electronic equipment. Its operations teams will remain on standby around the clock to deploy generators and other resources to affected sites, with the aim of minimising disruptions to mobile network services during severe weather.

CelcomDigi is also working with the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and relevant authorities to share timely information with communities in flood-prone areas.

Separately, CelcomDigi is encouraging Malaysians to prepare for the monsoon season through its Flood Preparedness Kit, which provides practical guidance and information on responding to flood-related emergencies. If you’re interested, you can find out more about it by clicking here.
