CelcomDigi partners with IPification to enable mobile number verification via trusted APIs

By Raymond Saw July 16, 2026

CelcomDigi has announced a new partnership with IPification to offer network-based mobile number verification for major global social media platforms. The telco claimed it is the first in Malaysia to collaborate with the authentication company, with the service available through its API-as-a-Service platform.

Instead of relying only on SMS one-time passwords (OTP), the solution uses CelcomDigi’s mobile network together with IPification’s technology to verify that a mobile number belongs to the user. According to the company, this provides a faster and more secure way to verify identities during account registration, login and account recovery.

CelcomDigi said that the service can help reduce risks such as fake accounts, impersonation, account takeovers and online scams while making it easier for actual Malaysians to access their accounts.

The telco also added trusted identity verification is becoming more important as AI is increasingly used by online platforms for content recommendations, moderation and fraud detection. By verifying that a user is linked to a genuine mobile number, platforms can improve their ability to detect suspicious activity and reduce abuse.

“Trust is becoming one of the most important foundations of the digital economy, especially as AI is transforming how people interact, create and connect online. As we continue to lead the market and expand our API-as-a-Service capabilities, we are transforming our network into programmable digital infrastructure that powers innovation and creates value beyond connectivity.

We are enabling enterprises and digital platforms to access trusted network APIs to build more secure, seamless and intelligent digital services,” – T. Kugan, CelcomDigi Chief Innovation Officer

This is the latest addition to CelcomDigi’s growing portfolio of network APIs. The telco already offers phone number verification through Google’s Firebase platform, and says its latest partnership with IPification expands these capabilities to help businesses build safer and more trusted digital services. That being siad, CelcomDigi hasn’t named any social media platforms that will be using the new verification service at time of writing.
