CelcomDigi expands CD:NXT with new work-based learning programme for university students

CelcomDigi has kicked off the next phase of CD:NXT, its talent development initiative, with a new work-based learning programme called Campus@celcomdigi. Alongside it, the telco is also continuing its Young Talent Programme (YTP) and a Certifications programme for emerging technologies.

Under Campus@celcomdigi, university students get exposure to real industry work while they’re still studying. Second-year students will tackle actual business challenges as part of their coursework, with mentors from the industry guiding them throughout their studies. The programme becomes more hands-on in the final year, with selected students taking up industry residencies at a dedicated on-site campus at CelcomDigi’s headquarters.

To start, the programme is available to students from four universities, namely Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and HELP University. CelcomDigi says it aims to take in more than 300 students a year through the final-year residency, and plans to bring more universities on board over time.

Meanwhile, the YTP is aimed at fresh graduates. First introduced in 2025, it’s a two-year programme that combines rotational assignments, mentorship and involvement in strategic business projects. Its second batch of 20 participants has just come on board, covering areas such as Cloud Engineering, Cybersecurity, Data and Business Analytics, Digital Product Development, as well as AI and Automation.

Rounding things off is Certifications, which builds on the CelcomDigi Metaversity platform. This programme offers recognised accreditation in artificial intelligence (AI) and extended reality (XR), and is open to school and university students as well as working professionals.

CelcomDigi CEO Albern Murty said the company believes Malaysia already has the talent to drive its digital economy, and that large local companies have a part to play in helping young Malaysians build their careers.

“Leading Malaysian corporations have a significant role to play in partnering with the government to create an enabling environment for young Malaysians to thrive, grow, and lead the delivery of these aspirations. CD:NXT is our commitment to building that future.

We continue to invest in talent today to nurture a generation of Malaysians to grow their careers, have the freedom to innovate, build character and shape the nation’s future.” – Albern Murty, Chief Executive Officer of CelcomDigi.

The launch was officiated by Ministry of Higher Education director-general Datuk Prof Dr Azlinda Azman, on behalf of Higher Education Minister Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir. CelcomDigi added that CD:NXT is in line with the Rancangan Pendidikan Tinggi Malaysia (RPTM) 2026-2035.
