Bye bye blue bird? Twitter rebrand may be around the corner
A Twitter rebrand may happen very, very soon, as indicated by the owner himself, Elon Musk.
Musk, who is the owner of X Corp (the tech company that owns Twitter), and spacecraft engineering company, SpaceX, will rebrand Twitter to simply, X.
Musk took to his Twitter account yesterday (23rd July) to announce the move via a series of Tweets.
Based on Elon’s tweet, the iconic blue Twitter bird looks to have reached the end of its lifespan. The blue bird has been a central figure of the brand since its inception into the logo in 2010.
The process of rebranding seems to already be in motion, with an interim ‘X’ logo now finalized and currently used as @elonmusk’s official display photo. Furthermore, Musk also tweeted that the domain X.com “now points to https://twitter.com/.”
At the time of writing, the link still leads to an empty website.
According to Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino, X will encompass far greater functionality than Twitter, with the revamped platform being “centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking.”
It’s still unclear when a full-scale revamp will take place, of if there’ll be any significant change to the entire Twitter outlook. But it does seem that a rebrand is around the corner, and it’s about to happen fast.
It wasn’t too long ago that Meta Platforms – who owns Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram – released Threads, which is essentially another version of Twitter. Threads became the fastest growing app ever, surpassing 100 million users 5 days after its release, though traction seems to have fallen off in the following weeks after that.
