Apple TV 4K (4th gen): Up to 2x faster graphics and a trackable Siri Remote, priced at RM1,349

Apple has announced the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, which is also coming to Malaysia. The new streaming box gets a faster chip, a Siri Remote that’s easier to find when it slips between the sofa cushions, and support for a four-speaker surround sound setup with HomePod.

Under the hood, the new Apple TV 4K runs on the A19 chip, which offers up to 50% faster CPU performance and up to 2x faster GPU performance than the previous generation. The chip also adds a dedicated AV1 decoder, allowing for high-quality streaming while using less bandwidth.

The biggest addition is four-speaker surround sound, allowing the Apple TV 4K to pair with up to four HomePod mini 2 or second-generation HomePod speakers that automatically detect room placement to calibrate timing and volume. Meanwhile, the Siri Remote retains its familiar design but now includes Find My with Precision Finding and an integrated speaker to help locate it when misplaced.

The Apple TV 4K also doubles as a smart home hub with built-in Wi-Fi and Thread support. If you have a compatible doorbell, you’ll be able to see who’s at the door, speak to them and unlock the door right from your TV without pausing what you’re watching. It also supports automations, guest mode and local processing of HomeKit Secure Video footage.

Other features of note include Secure Exclaves on the A19 chip that process microphone data separately from the rest of the system, FaceTime calls via Continuity Camera, and new options to customise which iCloud photos appear as your screen saver, along with a new screen saver shuffle mode.
The Apple TV 4K (4th generation) is priced at RM1,349 in Malaysia. Pre-orders open on 15 October at 9am via the Apple Store website and the Apple Store app, with availability starting from 13 November.
