Apple Music subscription fee goes up in price, now RM17.90/month

Apple Music fans, some unfortunate news for you today. The Cupertino giant has raised its subscription fees for their music streaming platform, in line with a global move which also sees Apple One pricing raised elsewhere but thankfully not in Malaysia for now.

Apple Music is now priced at RM17.90/month for the individual plan, up by RM1, while the family plan is now priced at RM27.90/month, a RM2 increase. The Apple Music student plan meanwhile is now RM9.50/month, a RM0.60 hike. As for Apple One, which bundles Music, tv+, Arcade and iCloud+, it continues to start from RM34.90/month for the individual plan.

As for why the price hike, it seems that rising music licensing costs has caught up with Cupertino, and they’ve had to increase Music’s subscription fees. For those of you who aren’t students but still prefer Apple Music’s higher quality audio streaming, your cheapest bet will to either hop onto a family plan or get more value out of your subscriptions through Apple One.

It has to be said though that this move has been coming for some time now. The last time Apple Music saw a price hike was in 2022, when it went from RM14.90/month to RM16.90/month for the individual plan and from RM22.90/month to RM25.90/month for the family plan.

For what it’s worth, its biggest rival Spotify has seen two price hikes since 2022, though Apple Music’s increase does mean that the green streaming platform is now the cheaper option at RM17.50/month for its own individual plan, and matches Apple’s pricing on its student and family plans.
