Apple iMac now powered by an M1 processor. Available in Malaysia starting at RM 5,599!
Along with the launch of the M1-powered iPad Pro (2021), Apple also announced its new M1-powered iMac 24″ (2021).
The iMac 24″ (2021) is the first iMac to do away with intel processors and transition to Apple silicon. Apple did not stop there, as they went all out to introduce a refreshing new look to its iMac series.
The new iMac 24″ (2021) comes in 7 different colours and has a sleeker overall design. As some fans pointed out, the new iMac design is very much like an iPad Pro on a stand.
Love it or hate it, we can all agree that it is indeed refreshing to see such vibrant colours being introduced in Apple’s line of products.

Overall, Apple offers 3 options for the iMac 24″ with the lowest spec starting from RM5,599. For the lowest spec, users should expect a slight decrease in performance due to its 7-core GPU instead of the 8-core GPU.
Aside from that, the lowest spec variant also only comes with 2 thunderbolt / USB 4 ports whereas the 8-core GPU variants come with two additional USB 3 ports.
Lastly, it is important to also note that orange, yellow and purple designs are only available for the 8-Core GPU variants.
Final Thoughts
We are kinda on the fence with this one. Seeing that the iPad Pro 2021 is also powered by the same M1 processor and is available starting at a lower price, we definitely find ourselves leaning more toward the iPad Pro.
However, it really boils back down to the use case of the device. If you have a fixed work station and would like a larger display, the iMac 24″ is definitely an upgrade from the iMac 21.5″ (2019).
Lastly, though the M1 processor is undoubtedly a great processor, it still pales in comparison to the 8-core 10th-generation Intel Core i7 processor found on the iMac 27″ (2020). Therefore, if your work requires that extra processing power, the iMac 27″ may still be the better option for you.
