Apple HomeView: 7-inch smart display with A18 chip brings Apple Intelligence to your home

Apple has finally entered the smart display game with Apple HomeView, a 7-inch home hub that combines a speaker, a FaceTime camera and a smart home control panel in one device. It also runs Siri AI, the new and more conversational version of Siri, though unfortunately it isn’t coming to Malaysia for now.

Available in two distinct designs, HomeView is built to fit seamlessly into any room. The tabletop model features an aluminium body and a Liquid Retina display set atop a domed speaker base via a stainless steel hinge. It comes in silver, starlight, rose pink, and space grey. For a wall setup, there is also a version in space grey and silver that pairs with one of three Schneider Home mounts, sold separately.

The display has a 1088 x 1088 resolution with True Tone, and its brightness ranges from 500nits down to just 0.3nits, so it shouldn’t light up your whole bedroom if you keep it on your nightstand. The interface also adjusts based on how far away you are, showing simpler information from across the room and more detail as you get closer.

Under the hood, HomeView is powered by the A18 chip, the same chip found in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. There’s a 12MP Center Stage camera for FaceTime calls along with a four-microphone array, and the device can recognise the faces of up to six users, each getting their own Home Screen with personal content from Messages, Calendar, Reminders and Find My.

As a smart home hub, HomeView supports Apple Home and Matter accessories, and can livestream up to nine camera feeds at once. With an iCloud+ subscription and compatible cameras, it can also recognise people, pets, packages and vehicles, while Sound Recognition alerts you on your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch if it hears a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm.

Other features of note include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 6.0, Thread, temperature and humidity sensors, and Handoff for moving music from your iPhone to HomeView. The tabletop model weighs 952g and comes with a 30W adapter, while the wall-mounted model is 9.8mm thick and weighs 286g. Do note that HomeView has no battery and needs to be plugged in at all times.

Apple HomeView will be available from 13 November in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa and Singapore, where both models are priced at USD399 (~RM1633). Apple has not announced any plans to bring HomeView to Malaysia, and Siri AI on HomeView is currently only available in English in the launch markets.
