AMD Radeon RX 9050 announced, entry level 1080p GPU for under RM1,200

Finally, some new graphics cards to get excited about. AMD has announced their latest GPU, the Radeon RX 9050. This latest addition to their Radeon RX 9000 series is their entry-level option, offering RDNA 4 to budget gamers seeking to play on a 1080p resolution.

In terms of key hardware, you’re looking at a 4nm RDNA 4 GPU with 16 compute units, 16 ray accelerators and 32 AI accelerators matched with 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM. It runs at a base clock of 1.92GHz with boosts of up to 2.60GHz, and has a rated TBP of 92W, requiring just a single 8-pin connector to fire up. It’s relatively low power draw means that you could ostensibly get by with just a 450W power supply.

Performance-wise, don’t expect high resolution, high refresh rate gaming. AMD is clearly positioning this as GPU for 1080p gamers, with their own benchmarks running at FHD medium settings only. They claim up to 227FPS in Counter-Strike 2, 96FPS in Cyberpunk 2077, 131FPS in Forza Horizon 6, 60FPS in 007: First Light and if up to 593FPS in Valorant.

As for pricing, AMD’s official recommended retail price for the RX 9050 is USD279, which roughly translates to RM1,140. However, the actual price will of course depend on which board partner—such as Asrock or Sapphire—you go with, as each manufacturer can add extra features like more robust cooling, extra fans or even a factory overclock, which in turn will increase the price.
