Acer Vero 16: Built with recycled materials, designed to be repairable
The Acer Vero 16 has been formally announced on the global stage, and is the latest member of their eco-friendly Vero lineup of laptops and devices. The Vero 16 however stands out more as it’s being positioned as a premium laptop that is not just built of recycled materials but also easy to repair and upgrade.
This marks the start of the fourth generation of Vero consumer laptops, and Acer claims several major improvements over previous models. For instance, with the chassis the top and palm rest covers now consist of 50% post-industrial recycled aluminum and 50% low carbon aluminum. The bottom cover meanwhile is built of 60% post-consumer recycled plastic, with another 30% of PCR plastic in the display bezels.
As part of its move to add ‘repairability’ to its reduce, reuse, recycle approach to design, Acer made some tweaks to this generation’s Vero 16 too to reduce eWaste. For starters, there’s a visual guide engraved directly on the laptop to assist you when you’re repairing or upgrading it, while an access latch on the bottom cover gives you easy tool-free access to the internals. The battery and the SSD meanwhile are user replaceable, and even the hinge on the Vero 16 can be detached from the chassis for easy repairs. Even the I/O port covers on both sides are removable.
When it comes to the actual hardware itself, you’ll find anything from an Intel Core Ultra 5 322 up till an Intel Core Ultra X9 388H processor, depending on model configurations, along with up to 32GB LPDDR5X memory and up to 512GB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD. There’s also a 71Wh battery keeping the lights on, while for software the Vero 16 is a Copilot+ PC, so you’ll get all of Microsoft’s AI tools onboard.
The display meanwhile is a 16-inch OLED panel across all configurations, with the top panel offering a WQXGA+ resolution with up to 400nits of brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate. The lower spec FHD+ resolution options meanwhile come with a non-touch option with 300nits of brightness and a 60Hz refresh rate, while the touchscreen one is 250nits and 60Hz refresh rate.
Other features of note include stereo speakers with DTS Virtual: X audio, dual Thunderbolt 4 ports, WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.6 connectivity as well as a customisable Acer MyKey hotkey. No one yet though on when it’ll be coming to Malaysia, with Acer only confirming it’ll be heading to the EMEA region first in Q1 2027.
