The Malaysia Car of the Year Awards 2025 (MCOTY) has underscored the nation’s automotive industry transformation, with electric vehicles (EVs) increasingly dominating top honors.

The Zeekr 009 Ultra Luxury was named Overall Malaysia Car of the Year 2025, praised for its advanced electric powertrain, premium refinement, safety features, and luxury-focused design. This marks the second consecutive year that an EV has won the awards’ highest accolade, reflecting the growing acceptance of electric mobility in Malaysia’s high-end vehicle segments.

In other awards, the Automotive Person of the Year (APOY) was awarded to Dato’ Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, President and CEO of Perodua. Under his leadership, Perodua has maintained strong sales performance, contributed to Malaysia’s Total Industry Volume (TIV), and supported the development of the first locally developed electric vehicle, the Perodua QV-E.

Reflecting consumer sentiment, the People’s Choice Award 2025 went to the Proton X50 1.5TD Flagship, highlighting Malaysian buyers’ growing preference for vehicles that combine technology, efficiency, safety, and value.

MCOTY 2025 also recognised the automotive supply chain’s critical role. Asian Automotive Steels Sdn Bhd and Delloyd Electronics Sdn Bhd received vendor awards for their contributions to vehicle development, manufacturing quality, and local industry capability building.

Winners were evaluated across eight criteria: Appearance, Safety, Ergonomics, Value for Money, Practicality, Performance, Energy Efficiency, and Warranty. The awards also recognised sustainability, ESG practices, and broader industry enablers.

“The growing presence of electric vehicles among top award winners demonstrates Malaysia’s readiness to embrace cleaner and smarter mobility solutions,” – YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister

Organised by Mobility Media and co-organised by MARii, MCOTY 2025 reinforces Malaysia’s position as a regional hub for innovative, sustainable, and technology-driven mobility solutions.
