Projector on a Budget? Xiaomi’s L1 Pro Nails It

We’ve experienced the wonders of a no-holds-barred, powerful, tear-shedding projector in the Epson EH-QL3000W. And while we loved what we saw, unfortunately, the Epson costs upwards of RM60,000 — an eye-watering price that’s far too unattainable for working-class folks like us.
We don’t know where you sit in the tax bracket, but if you’re looking for something that won’t cost you as much as a Perodua Ativa paid in cash, Xiaomi’s new L1 Pro projector is one to consider.
At just RM1,199, the L1 Pro is far more accessible to the masses, with features that will appeal to those seeking the big-screen experience. There are plenty of reasons to love it, all of which are detailed below. So, let’s take a look.
Easy to work around

No need to mount or go seeking floor-to-ceiling cables — the L1 Pro is as straightforward as can be. This is essentially a plug-and-play solution that even projector newbies can figure out (maybe even your parents, if you’re patient enough to walk them through the setup).

After plugging in the main adapter — as you would with many other devices — the only thing you need to decide is whether you want to connect it to your laptop or not. Everything else, even the focusing, is done automatically. Of course, you do have the option to operate the focus manually, provided you know your way around it.
Pre-installed Netflix and YouTube

You don’t even need an HDMI cable, in fact. The Xiaomi L1 Pro comes pre-installed with Netflix and YouTube, so as long as you have either account, you won’t be left wanting. These are perhaps two of the most popular streaming apps globally, so it’s great that they’ve been included in the OS.
A bonus is that the remote control has dedicated access to those apps, all within a finger’s reach.
Conveniently portable

Personally, the best feature of the L1 Pro is its portability. This is something that will definitely liven up your next staycation, as it’s easy to haul around and won’t take up much room. Imagine a movie night after a hearty dinner, or a night full of ear-bleeding, off-key karaoke belting. For the boys, well, Premier League Super Sundays are going to look great here too.
Even at home, it won’t be much of a hassle to move the projector from the bedroom to the living room, or any other space where the good times are set to roll.
Decent video and audio quality

Despite its accessible price point, the L1 Pro delivers pretty decent image quality, featuring 1080p HD resolution. Just make sure you’re in a dark — or at least dim — room, as the 400 lumens don’t really do the picture much justice in bright lighting. Nevertheless, at its optimal range, the projector throws up a massive 120″ screen for your enjoyment.

Plus, there’s no need to lug around external speakers, as the L1 Pro comes with two 5W built-in Dolby Audio speakers. It works wonders in a small room, though calling it “cinema-grade” would be a stretch. Still, it’s more than enough to please a crowd of casual cinephiles.
Xiaomi Projector L1 Pro: Should you buy?

So, is the Xiaomi Projector L1 Pro worth a purchase? For me, it’s a resounding yes, given the features you get at this price point. This is a fun-sized projector that will fuel plenty of good times — movie nights with friends and family, date nights, or a hard-earned Friday night of bingeing.
It’s a leisure product that everyone will love — and even if you’re not using it every day of the week, it’ll definitely come in handy when you’re craving a cinema-like experience at home.
The Xiaomi L1 Pro is available for purchase in Malaysia at a price of RM1,199. It can be purchased on Xiaomi’s official website, and on Xiaomi’s official platforms on Shopee and Lazada.
