Xiaomi has just released several more members to the Mi 11 family. For those who are looking for an even more sophisticated camera setup on a phone, the Mi 11 Ultra might just be what you are looking for.

The Mi 11 Ultra stole the spotlight amidst the release of the Mi 11 Lite, Lite 5G, 11i and Pro thanks to its ground-breaking camera set and mini rear display.

Right off the back, the Mi 11 Ultra currently holds the highest rating on DXOMARK with an outstanding performance across the photo, zoom and video categories. Let’s go ahead and take a closer look at the camera set.

To quickly break it down, the main 50MP 1/1.2″ camera debuts the large Samsung GN2 sensor. With a larger sensor, the camera is able to capture more light to produce brighter and clearer photos. In addition, the complementing ISOCELL Plus technology allows the ISOCELL GN2 sensor to push the resolution output to up to 100MP.

The 48MP periscope telephoto and ultrawide camera are both feature the Sony IMX586 lens. The periscope telephoto allows for up to 120x zoom while the ultrawide camera can help you capture up to 128°.

All 3 cameras allow you to capture 8k videos and performs well in low-light settings. With this camera set, you’ll be able to output stunning quality photos and videos with much versatility.

Secondary 1.1″ AMOLED Display

In addition to its powerful camera setup, the Mi 11 Ultra comes complete with a secondary 1.1″ AMOLED Display which can be found on the rear camera island.

This further enhances the video and photo shooting experience as it allows users to utilize its powerful camera set when vlogging or taking a selfie.

Of course, this isn’t the only use of the secondary display. The secondary display also has an Always On Mode and can be used to show a variety of notifications.

The Mi 11 Ultra has an improved battery capacity from 4,600mAh(Mi 11) to 5,000 mAh (Mi 11 Ultra). To top it off, the Mi 11 Ultra improved its fast-charging capabilities from 55W to 67W. However, it is important to note that the Mi 11 Ultra will most likely only come with a 55W GaN charger.

2. IP 68 Rating

Harsh critics of the Mi 11 have now been silenced. The Mi 11 Ultra now comes complete with an IP 68 rating. In simple terms, the device is fit enough to withstand dust, dirt and sand, and is resistant to submersion up to a maximum depth of 1.5m underwater for up to thirty minutes.

Referring to the launch price in China, we can expect the Mi 11 Ultra to be priced within the following range:

  • 8GB RAM + 256GB storage – CNY 5,999 (about RM3,788)
  • 12GB RAM + 256GB storage – CNY 6,499 (about RM4,104)
  • 12GB RAM + 512GB storage – CNY 6,999 (about RM4,420)

Though from experience, Xiaomi devices does end up being priced slightly lower in Malaysia.

Final Thoughts

Though impressive, the Mi 11 Ultra is really only worth the upgrade if you consider yourself a photography or videography lover. For most of us casual phone users, the additional ~RM500 is in our honest opinion not necessary.

Regardless, we really enjoy seeing Xiaomi push the boundaries of smartphone capabilities while maintaining a highly competitive price which can be hard to resist.
