Xiaomi Pad 8 series: Powerful 11.2″ tablets with up to Snapdragon 8 Elite, from RM1,699

Alongside the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra, the Chinese giant has also introduced their new Xiaomi Pad 8 and Pad 8 Pro to our shores. These are powerful, productivity focused tablets that should be of interest to anyone looking for an alternative to your iPads and Galaxy Tabs of the world.

The Xiaomi Pad 8 and Pad 8 Pro are now available for purchase in Malaysia at all Xiaomi stores nationwide, the Xiaomi Malaysia website and their online stores on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop Here’s how much they’ll cost:
- Xiaomi Pad 8, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage – RM1,699
- Xiaomi Pad 8, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM1,999
- Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro, 12GB RAM, 512GB storage – RM2,999

From now till the end of March, those who purchase a Xiaomi Pad 8 will get a RM100 discount and a Xiaomi Focus Pen Pro, with the 128GB model also getting a cover bundled while the 256GB model comes with a keyboard cover instead. As for the Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro, you’ll get the Focus Pen Pro, keyboard and a free Xiaomi 212W HyperCharge Power Bank 24500mAh, worth a total of RM1,567. All Xiaomi Pad 8 series devices will come with 3 months of YouTube Premium too.
Xiaomi Pad 8 series specs

Both the Xiaomi Pad 8 and Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro look nearly identical to each other, with a slim metal unibody chassis that’s just 5.75mm thin and 485g light housing an 11.2-inch, 3.2K IPS display that is capable of pushing a 144Hz refresh rate and up to 800nits of brightness. The high resolution display will come along with a quad speaker setup that can do up to 200% volume boost for their best audiovisual experience on a tablet yet. You’ll also find a 50MP main camera and 32MP front shooter on the Pad 8 Pro, while the Pad 8 gets a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera.

Powering the Xiaomi Pad 8 is the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 system-on-chip, a fairly capable ‘flagship killer’ processor, while the Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro gets the last generation true flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset instead. The former also gets 8GB of LPDDR5X memory and up to 256GB of storage, while the latter gets 12GB of LPDDR5T memory and 512GB of storage. There’s also a 9,200mAh battery with 45W fast charging on the Pad 8 and 67W fast charging on the Pad 8 Pro; both support 22.5W reverse wireless charging.

Out of the box, you’ll find HyperOS 3 with a bunch od tablet-focused productivity features, such as a more elegant aesthetic and better widget customisations, on top of an updated split screen layout that now supports a 5:5 vertical split view, as well as a 1:9 horizontal split ratio for more flexible window management. The Workstation Mode has been improved too, expanding the number of apps on the Dock. There’s also a PC-level browser for a desktop-like toolbar, tabbed browsing, mouse hover previews and right-click functionality. WPS Office PC will also come pre-installed for quick document creation and editing.

One extra thing to note is the new Xiaomi Focus Pen Pro, with a unibody, button free design for a more cleaner design. It weighs just 17.5g for more comfortable note taking and drawing sessions, along with upgraded pressure-sensitive shortcut keys via pinch and double tap gestures, as well as improved hover previews and side rotating brush support.
