If you’re in your early stages of research, you will likely have the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 on your shortlist. This is a great choice, but hold that thought – there might be better options beyond the galaxy.
We’re lucky to be in an era where we’re spoiled for choice. But the one we’ve deemed a close contender to the Galaxy Z Flip6 is the Xiaomi MIX Flip. Here’s how they stack up:

On paper, at least, it looks like the Xiaomi MIX Flip has blown the Galaxy Z Flip6 out of the water. Xiaomi’s flip offering trumps the Galaxy in many areas related to performance; all with a cheaper price tag too.
At RM4,999, Xiaomi is generous enough to offer 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage out of the box – a configuration that would cost you an additional RM600 with the Z Flip6. Moreover, both devices are equipped with the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.
You’ll also find a gaping difference in battery capacity that positions the MIX Flip in pole spot. The MIX Flip’s 4,780mAh capacity against the 4,000mAh of the Z Flip6 cannot be neglected. If you’re out for something long-lasting, you already have a clear winner in the Xiaomi. If, however, you’re opting for a device that has fast charging…well, you have a clear winner in the Xiaomi (again).
When it comes to batteries, the only leverage Samsung has is that it supports wireless charging. Even then, you’re limited to a slowcoach 15W.
Xiaomi also seems to have the edge with displays, both internal and external. Externally, it is larger with a 4″ screen, boasts higher resolution, and has greater refresh rates as compared to the Samsung. Flip the devices open and you’re met with similar standards: a higher resolution display and better peak brightness are found on the MIX Flip, though refresh rates are now even on both screens with 120Hz.
A bonus you get with the Xiaomi is the Leica optics carried over from the 14 Series. You get dual 50MP cameras on the Xiaomi, compared to the 50MP+12MP array on the Samsung. We can’t come to any conclusions about quality yet, but one certainly looks more appealing than the other.
It’s not all bad for Samsung, as the Z Flip6 does come in slimmer dimensions that are easily pocketable. It also has IP48 rating that safeguards the phone against dust, and more crucially, water. The MIX Flip lacks an IP rating – or any sort of dust and water resistance – so be sure to keep it away from water, or you might find yourself searching for a new smartphone sooner than expected.
Perhaps the biggest advantage Samsung has over the Xiaomi is the promise of 7 years of Android update and 7 years of security updates. This will keep you covered until 2031, setting you up for the long haul.
