Xiaomi 17 Ultra specs and features

Being the most premium Xiaomi smartphone ever meant that the Chinese giant had to refine the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s design a little more than usual. The 17 Ultra features an all-flat body with a micro-curved flat frame built out of aluminum alloy, housing a 6.9-inch Xiaomi HyperRGB OLED display pushing a 2608 x 1200p resolution with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, DCI-P3 colour and peak brightness of 3500nits. A layer of Xiaomi Shield Glass 3.0 is also present for scratch resistance.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 system-on-chip, with 16GB of LPDDR5X memory and up to 1TB of UFD 4.1 storage. Keeping it all cooled is a new 3D Dual-Channel IceLoop system, featuring an improved vapor chamber design for better sustained performance. It runs Xiaomi HyperOS 3 out of the box skinned over Android 16, with five major Android OS upgrades guaranteed.

The cameras however is really where the Xiaomi 17 Ultra shines. The Leica co-developed cameras include a main 50MP, f/1.67 shooter using a Light Fusion 1050L 1-inch image sensor with LOFIC HDR technology, giving a 23mm equivalent focal length. That’s flanked by a 200MP, f/2.39-2.96 75mm-100mm telephoto using a Samsung HPE image sensor that can also do 30cm macro photography, as well as a 50MP, f/2.2 14mm equivalent ultrawide using a Samsung JN5 image sensor, while a 50MP, f/2.2 selfie shooter rounds things off.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s cameras are built on Leica’s UltraPure optical design, using high-grade lenses and a 1G+6P hybrid setup with advanced multi-coating to reduce glare, blur and ghosting for cleaner shots. Its telephoto camera also debuts Leica’s first APO lens on a Xiaomi flagship, helping to eliminate colour fringing for more accurate images. Video steps up too, with support for 4K 120fps in Dolby Vision for smooth HDR footage, plus 4K 120fps Log with ACES for greater flexibility in post-production.

Other features of note include a 6,000mAh battery with 90W HyperCharge wired fast charging and 50W HyperCharge wireless charging, an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers, and an IP68 dust and water resistance rating.

Of course, we can’t talk about the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and not mention the Leica Leitzphone. Essentially the global version of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition, the Leitphone is basically the Xiaomi 17 Ultra with a few upgrades, such as a special dual tone design to match Leica’s iconic M-series cameras and custom software Leica themed software. There’s textured knurling on the frame too, with the Leica red dot logo at the corner. You’ll also get a physically rotating Leica Camera Ring around the camera bump for a true camera-like zoom experience, while a Leica Essential mode further recreates the image quality and style of iconic Leica cameras.

Lastly, about the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Photography Kit, it’s been made lighter and more compact, weighing in at just 48g. It includes a wrist strap with a lychee texture, and with a customisable two-stage shutter button and dedicated video recording button you can get precise control for stills or video. As for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Photography Kit Pro, it’s more reminiscent of Leica camera bodies with a slip-resistant texture and PU leather surface. There’s also an integrated 2,000mAh battery that doubles as a power bank, and a detachable shutter button with thumb support for even more control.
