Xcode 26.3 brings agentic coding with Claude and OpenAI Codex

By Raymond Saw February 4, 2026

Apple has announced Xcode 26.3 introducing agentic coding, a new way for developers to build apps using AI coding agents that can work more autonomously inside Xcode.

With this update, developers can use coding agents such as Anthropic’s Claude Agent and OpenAI’s Codex directly in Xcode to handle complex development tasks. These agents can break down objectives, make decisions based on project architecture and use Xcode’s built-in tools to get work done faster.

Building on the AI coding assistant introduced in Xcode 26, agentic coding gives these agents deeper access to Xcode. They can now search through Apple documentation, explore project file structures, update project settings, capture Xcode previews to verify changes and iterate through new various builds, fixes and refinements.

According to Apple, this allows agents to collaborate across the entire app development lifecycle, helping developers streamline workflows and focus more on creativity rather than repetitive tasks.

“At Apple, our goal is to make tools that put industry-leading technologies directly in developers’ hands so they can build the very best apps. Agentic coding supercharges productivity and creativity, streamlining the development workflow so developers can focus on innovation,” Susan Prescott, Apple Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations

Xcode 26.3 also supports the Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets developers use other compatible AI agents and tools beyond Claude and Codex — giving teams more flexibility in choosing their preferred models.

Xcode 26.3 is now available as a release candidate to Apple Developer Program members, with a public release coming soon on the App Store.
