WhatsApp is finally rolling out the ‘Edit’ feature

By Timothy Teoh May 23, 2023

Gone are the days of deleting an entire chat bubble just to fix a pesky typo. WhatsApp has confirmed on their website that they are currently rolling out an ‘Edit’ feature for the app.

“For the moments when you make a mistake, or simply change your mind, you can now edit your sent messages”, was the message in a short announcement on their website.

Even Meta Platforms CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, took to his Facebook account to confirm this with an image of the ‘Edit’ feature in action.

The feature is rolling out as we speak. If you do not have it yet, you will eventually in a matter of days or weeks. Here’s where we remind you to keep the app updated so the feature can be installed.

Once you do, you simply need to long-press on your sent message bubble and select ‘Edit’ from the menu. However, you can only do so for up to 15 minutes after the message has been sent.

Understandably so, just to avoid any malicious attempt to misinform or distort context from a conversation.

Edited messages will also display an ‘edited’ sign alongside them so users will be aware of the change, but they won’t be able to view the edit history.

WhatsApp has only just begun its rollout of the ‘Edit’ feature globally. You may not have it yet at the time of posting, but WhatsApp assures it “will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.”
