WhatsApp Introduces Message Summaries So You Don’t Have to Read Your Entire Breakup Text

Got a nasty breakup text that’s just tl;dr? Let WhatsApp summarize it so you don’t have to read through it all! WhatsApp has announced via its official blog that a new Message Summaries feature has been integrated. It does exactly what its name suggests – it quickly summarizes unread messages in a chat before you dive into the details, whether it’s your best friend spilling hot gossip, a family member recounting their day, or a fiery rant from your boss.
According to WhatsApp, the feature uses Private Processing, which allows Meta AI to generate summaries without ever seeing your messages—assuring user privacy in the process. Additionally, WhatsApp will not inform the chat if you or anyone else uses the Message Summaries feature.

Whatsapp states Message Summaries is optional and turned off by default. You’ll also have the option to choose which chats can be shared for AI features via the Advanced Chat Privacy settings.
For now, Message Summaries is only available to users in the U.S. and only supports messages in English. WhatsApp says it hopes to include more languages and expand the feature to additional countries later this year.
