vivo X100 Series: Powerful ZEISS APO Telephoto Floating Camera makes it one of the best smartphone cameras you can find

By Timothy Teoh January 15, 2024

What happens when you take vivo’s flagship X series, and add the magic touch of one of the most reputable camera lens makers in the world? You get the vivo X100 Series.

The vivo X100 Series is the photography superstar in the smartphone sphere. With cameras co-engineered with ZEISS, the vivo X100 Pro and vivo X100 brings mobile photography into a new level with redesigned optics and fine-tuned computational algorithm.

But enough with the babbling, let’s dive deep into how the vivo X100 Series redefines photography in today’s landscape.

Exceptional Imaging Technology

You might be aware by now that the headliner vivo x100 Pro comes with a ZEISS 1-inch sensor behind the 50MP main camera, giving you brighter and clearer photos like never before. But more than just its sensor, the vivo X100 Series is masterfully crafted with ZEISS optical hardware that plays a central piece elevating its cameras.

From its T* Coating to its ‘Floating Elements’ lens alignment, ZEISS is the key that unlocks versatile photography in vivo’s latest flagship.

ZEISS APO Floating Telephoto Camera

If you’re unfamiliar with camera jargons, APO means ‘apochromatic’, which is a type of lens that significantly reduces unsightly colour distortions, while improving colour correction capabilities. Apochromatic lenses are sought after even in dSLR cameras, but thanks to ZEISS, it’s now fitted snugly into the vivo X100 Pro.

In addition to this is ZEISS’ “Floating Elements” Design that optimizes the alignment of lenses to improve focusing performance. Be it micro close-up shots or far-reaching landscape photography, the optical ingenuity of the “Floating Elements” ensures crystal clear clarity in every shot you take on the vivo X100 Pro.

On that note, both the vivo X100 and vivo X100 Pro can achieve 100x HD zoom without fuss, be it day or night. The upgraded telephoto hardware coupled with vivo’s night photography algorithm render the series one of the more versatile smartphone cameras you can find.

ZEISS T* Coating

The vivo X100 Series is enhanced even further with the famous ZEISS T* Coating. This is an anti-reflective coat on the lens which reduces light reflection and lens flare, while also reproducing accurate colours.

The use of an anti-reflective layer means you can now capture any shot even under complex lighting conditions. The T* Coating worked wonders on its predecessors, but thanks to upgrades made over time, it has improved in clarity by up to 20%. That posh restaurant with dim lighting? No problem. That beautiful backlit sunset shot you’ve always wanted? That’s just a click away on the vivo X100 Series.

And since we’re talking about the sun, the vivo X100 Pro now has a fantastic Telephoto Sunshot feature that can capture sunsets and sunrises without distortion. The power comes from the combination between the ZEISS APO Telephoto Lens and the ZEISS T* Coating, plus the computational prowess of vivo’s Origin Imaging Engine. The result is a camera optimized to reproduce accurately the warm-tone of the sun, while retaining its shape with no deformation as seen on other smartphones.

ZEISS Multifocal Portrait

Ask any photographer and they’ll tell you that one of the most important aspects of a good portrait is focal length. The right focal length may differ according to the setting or outcome you want, which is why having a good selection of focal lengths at your fingertips is crucial.

Knowing this, the X100 Pro comes with the five golden focal length ranges for you to draw upon and level up your portraitures. These consist of a 24mm (1x), 35mm (1.5x), 50mm (2.2x), 85mm (3.7x), and a 100mm (4.3x) ranges.

Having the flexibility to switch up focal lengths swiftly is pivotal in capturing cherished long-lasting moments, and you can have it all right at your fingertips. Not to mention, you can finally get those dream portrait shots with creamy bokeh effects that’s perfect for your new profile picture.

Peak Performance with Dual Flagship Chipsets

You don’t come across many smartphones – even at the flagship segment – with dual chipsets. With the vivo X100 Pro, you get the best of the latest MediaTek Dimensity 9300, and vivo’s proprietary V3 Chip. The use of dual flagship chipsets allow your device to optimise processes relating to performance and video processing.

With the power of the V3 Chip, you can now record vivid Cinematic Portrait Videos in 4K. Not only that, your editing prowess has also significantly improved, allowing you to reselect focus subject, adjust bokeh intensity and styles, and more.

Video recording now also comes with Focus Switching, which automatically changes the point of focus based on where the subject is looking.

Beyond just video processing, the vivo X100 Series is now more responsive thanks to optimised framerates up to 120fps. Together with 2800x1260p resolution and 120Hz refresh rates on its display, the vivo X100 Pro offers buttery smooth gaming experience with top quality controls and unparalleled visuals.

Despite the heavy load, you’ll be able to go on for hours thanks to an all-day 5,400mAh battery. Even with 10%, you’ll have a good hour in the tank left before it shuts off. And when you do need to recharge, you’ll have the power of a 100W FlashCharge to get you back up to 100% in 33 minutes.

Say hello, to Sun Halo

The iconic new Sun Halo design isn’t just a fancy name for a pretty design. It’s a blend of qualities that gives the vivo X100 Pro its durable build and elegant finish. Adorned with a mirror-finished stainless steel, the rims of the camera module are decked with a uniform row of Premium Sunburst Texture. Protecting the triple cameras in the module is a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus Lens.

The vivo X100 Series comes in an astral-inspired Startrail Blue, and a sleek Asteroid Black.
