vivo launches V40 Series 5G with ZEISS cameras; Price starts RM1,999
vivo is blazing through the year with new launches almost every month since the start of the year. Now well into August, the brand has rolled back the curtains on yet another smartphone series. The latest V40 Series 5G are the successors of the vivo V30 Series 5G. The V30 phones, if you can recall, launched relatively recent in the first quarter of the year.
The V40 Series 5G – consisting of the V40 and V40 Pro – are now up for pre-orders, with the official availability date starting 31st August.
vivo V40 5G specs
ZEISS remains a unique centrepoint for the series, with both models sporting cameras co-engineered with ZEISS, although their sensors differ. We’ll touch first on the V40 5G, which comes with a dual camera setup consisting of a 50MP OIS main camera backed by GNJ sensor, and a 50MP ZEISS ultrawide lens.
The V40 5G offers three focal lengths under portrait mode, these being 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm. Where else for selfies, it relies on a 50MP front camera.
Consistent with the V series of last year, the V40 5G comes with a unique Aura Light for enhanced lighting. According to vivo, this year’s iteration is now 33% brighter than before.
Beyond camera hardware, there’s also new AI features integrated into the gallery app. The most noteworthy being AI Erase.
Cameras aside, the V40 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, with the option of either a 12GB+256GB or 12GB+512GB configuration. Keeping the phone running is a 5,500mAh battery supporting 80W wired charging.
Its display is 6.78″ AMOLED offering 1.5K (2800×1260) resolution, 120Hz refresh rates, 4,500nits peak brightness, and 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut.
For colourways, the V40 5G comes in Nebula Purple, Sunglow Peach, and Stellar Silver.
vivo V40 Pro 5G specs
As for the vivo V40 Pro, this model will undoubtedly have the better hardware. Cameras, for instance, have been upgraded to a triple setup. Leading the array is a 50MP ZEISS main camera, this time backed by a Sony IMX921 sensor. This is flanked by a 50MP ZEISS telephoto portrait lens with a Sony IMX816 sensor offering 2x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom; and a 50MP ZEISS ultrawide lens. Of the three, only the main and telephoto camera are supported with OIS.
Additionally, it offers more focal lengths under Portrait mode: 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and 100mm.
Front cameras, on the other hand, remain at 50MP.
vivo has decided on the MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ processor for the V40 Pro, with only a single 12GB+512GB configuration available.
It runs on the same 5,500mAh battery as the base model, also with 80W wired charging. The same can be said for its display, which doesn’t shift from its 6.78″ AMOLED panel with 1.5K (2800×1260) resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 4,500nits peak brightness, and 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut.
Like the base model, the Pro model will also come with AI Erase and the Aura Light feature.
The vivo V40 Pro 5G comes in two colours: Silver and White.
