U Mobile Ultra Prepaid: Unlimited speed, up to 500GB quota, from RM28/month

U Mobile has introduced their new prepaid plans in Malaysia. Unlike their previous Giler Unlimited plans that offered unlimited data at capped speeds, their new Ultra Prepaid plans offer unlimited speeds with fixed monthly data quotas instead.

As you can see in the table above, there are three monthly tiers available in the new Ultra Prepaid plans. The base Ultra Prepaid 28 is priced at RM28/month for 50GB of monthly data, while the Ultra Prepaid 38 is priced at RM38/month for 250GB of monthly data. Ultra Prepaid 50 meanwhile is priced at RM50/month and offers 500GB of monthly data.
All three of these plans come with unlimited network speeds, and of course it will run on their ULTRA5G network. You’ll also get unlimited calls to all domestic numbers for all three of the aforementioned plans. As for hotspot, Ultra Prepaid 38 and Ultra Prepaid 50 will tap off your main monthly data quota, while the Ultra Prepaid 28 has a fixed 5GB hotspot quota; you can purchase a 30-day hotspot add-on that uses your main data pool for RM5.
This might be a little disappointing for those of you hoping for more unlimited monthly data prepaid plans from U Mobile. However, according to U Mobile, they had studied the usage of their customers under the previous plans and despite having unlimited data a lot of them still used below 50GB a month. Since they wanted to offer unlimited speeds this time around, the telco had opted to balance it with a data quota instead.

One extra thing you might’ve spotted are the two free Ultra5G Priority passes that the Ultra Prepaid 50 has. Ultra5G Priority basically lets users be moved into a special lane, so to speak, for more consistent and stable network reception via 5G network slicing. U Mobile says this is best used when you’re in crowded places such as at a concert or football match.
Using the 3 Hour Priority Pass puts you into this special priority lane for three hours, and if you want more or if you’re on Ultra Prepaid 28 or 38, you can use Priority Access from RM2 per hour or for RM5 for three hours. Do note that you’ll only be able to use Priority Access when you’re connected to the Ultra 5G network and using a compatible 5G SA device. You’ll know when you’re connected via Priority Access as your device will show ‘Priority’ in the network operator display.

Separately, U Mobile has also launched weekly and daily data plans to go along with their Ultra Prepaid plans. For the Ultra Weekly plans, they start at RM12 for 10GB of data valid for 7 days, while for RM15 you get 20GB instead. Ultra Daily meanwhile starts at RM3 for 1GB of data valid for 24 hours, while for RM6 you get 10GB instead. All of these plans feature unlimited network speeds, while for hotspot it taps off your base quota pool.
