Tune Talk becomes first ASEAN telco with large-scale cloud-native core network

By Raymond Saw March 12, 2026

Back during Mobile World Congress 2026 last week, Tune Talk revealed that it has completed Phase 1 of its Cloud Core Network Modernisation plan with Nokia, becoming the first telco in ASEAN to deploy a cloud-native core network at scale. Phase 1 was completed in January 2026, while Phase 2 is currently underway and will introduce further automation, orchestration and intelligent network capabilities.

The new core network is built on a fully containerised, microservices-based architecture, similar to modern cloud platforms. This allows the network to scale resources dynamically, improve resilience and stability, on top of being able to introduce new services faster while reducing operational complexity through automation.

Tune Talk says the infrastructure upgrade is already supporting strong subscriber growth. Its user base has gone up from 0.95 million in 2024 to 1.8 million by the end of 2025, and the company is targeting 2.5 million subscribers by mid-2026.

“The rapid subscriber growth underscores the effectiveness of our technology‑first strategy—where infrastructure modernization directly fuels commercial acceleration. This is not an upgrade. This is a structural reset of how a mobile network operates. By becoming the region’s first telco to implement this cloud‑native core architecture at scale, we have built a platform designed for hyper‑growth, automation, and digital service innovation,” – Gurtaj Singh Padda, Tune Talk co-founder and CEO

Gurtaj’s counterpart from Nokia, Raghav Sahgal, meanwhile added that their collaboration with Tune Talk show’s what’s possible when cloud-native technology is used not just to modernise networks but to also transform how operators can grow and innovate.

In parallel with the core network rollout, Tune Talk is also developing its own roaming capabilities, which would give the operator greater control over international connectivity and improve service quality for customers travelling abroad. Together, the cloud-native core deployment and proprietary roaming infrastructure are part of Tune Talk’s plan to operate as a fully independent digital MNO, while positioning itself for further growth and potential regional expansion.
