Taobao Strengthens Local Presence with Bahasa Melayu Interface

By Timothy Teoh May 28, 2025

Taobao Malaysia has officially launched its new Bahasa Malaysia interface for the Taobao app. Starting from today, Malaysians can view the app in Bahasa Melayu, in addition to the existing English and Chinese language options.

To change the app’s language, head over to the ‘Account’ tab and select the settings icon at the top right corner. From there, tap on ‘Country and region/language/currency’, and toggle the language settings to your preferred language.

The new Bahasa Melayu interface is part of Taobao’s effort to localize the app for Malaysians. According to Taobao, the app saw significant growth when it launched the English interface in September last year.

Alongside the new interface, Taobao also introduced key updates, including an AI-powered Image Search Feature that allows users to snap or upload a photo to find similar items on the app. Additionally, the e-commerce platform now offers Coins Cashback, allowing users to earn rewards from selected sellers, and an Exclusive New User Perk that grants special deals to first-time Taobao shoppers.

Meanwhile, Taobao Malaysia’s 618 Mid-Year Sale is set to run from 28 May, 8:00PM to 20 June 11:29PM. During the sale, shoppers can enjoy exclusive deals and rewards, including:

  • Free sea shipping on orders over ¥199 (equivalent to RM116) with Coins Cashback
  • Spend & Win Air Tickets to Seoul in partnership with RHB Bank
  • Up to RM68 off on instant payment discount
  • Discounts up to 50% off promo codes
  • Daily flash sales, 15% discounts on wide range of products

If you’re interested in exploring the Taobao app, it’s available for download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
