Spotify upgrades its Lyrics feature with translations, offline access and lyric previews

By Raymond Saw February 5, 2026

Spotify has announced several new upgrades to its Lyrics feature, making it easier for users to understand, follow and engage with the words behind their favourite songs. According to Spotify, lyrics are viewed hundreds of millions of times every day, and these latest improvements aim to bring listeners even closer to the music they love.

Lyrics translations now available worldwide

Spotify is expanding its lyric translation feature to users around the world. First introduced in 2022, lyric translations were previously limited to select markets, but they are now available globally for supported tracks.

When a translation is available, users can tap the Translate icon on the lyrics card to view translated lyrics displayed below the original text. The translation language is based on the device’s system language, and users can switch back to the original lyrics at any time. This feature is available worldwide for both Free and Premium users.

Downloaded songs now include offline lyrics

Spotify is also making lyrics available offline for Premium subscribers. When users download songs for offline listening, the lyrics will now be saved automatically as well.

This means users can still read lyrics even when they have no internet connection, whether they’re commuting underground or travelling on a flight. Offline lyrics are currently rolling out globally for Premium users.

Lyrics now appear directly on the Now Playing screen

Another update puts lyrics front and centre while a song is playing. With the new lyric previews, the lyrics appear directly beneath the album artwork or Canvas animation on the Now Playing screen.

Spotify says early testing shows that this layout makes it easier for users to engage with lyrics and rediscover songs. Users can still share specific lyric lines to social media directly from the Now Playing view.

Lyric previews are rolling out globally for Free and Premium users on mobile (iOS and Android) and tablets. Users who prefer the old layout can disable previews by tapping the three-dot menu and selecting “Lyrics Off.”

Spotify says these updates are designed to strengthen the connection between listeners and artists by making lyrics more accessible and easier to follow than ever before. If you’re a big Spotify listener, you can update your app and check out these lyric preview updates already; if it hasn’t showed up, no worry, as Spotify is still rolling it out to users everywhere for now.
