Spotify to Finally Introduce Long-Awaited Lossless Audio Feature to Premium Subscribers

By PriceShop News September 12, 2025

Spotify has officially begun rolling out its long-anticipated lossless audio feature to Premium subscribers, starting in select markets. The new addition brings higher-quality streaming with up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC audio, which means more detailed sound for tracks available on the platform.

The rollout is happening in stages, and users won’t see the feature immediately unless it becomes available in their region. Spotify says Premium subscribers will get a notification in the app once they’re eligible to try it. The feature is compatible with mobile, desktop, and tablet apps, and also works on many third-party devices that support Spotify Connect. This includes brands like Sony, Bose, and Sennheiser. Support for Sonos and Amazon devices is expected to come next month.

If you’ve received access, you’ll need to turn on lossless audio manually for each device you use. Once enabled, a small “Lossless” indicator will appear in the Now Playing screen or in the Connect Picker, confirming that you’re streaming in higher quality.

To switch it on, tap your profile icon in the Spotify app, go to Settings & Privacy > Media Quality, and choose where you want to enable lossless playback—be it over Wi-Fi, cellular, or for downloads.

Spotify also notes that the best way to experience lossless audio is through wired headphones or speakers connected via Spotify Connect. Bluetooth devices, including wireless earbuds, may not deliver the full lossless experience due to bandwidth limitations, as the audio signal typically gets compressed before being transmitted.

Currently, the lossless feature is being introduced in over 50 countries, with the rollout continuing through October. Early access has already started in markets such as the US, UK, Germany, Japan, Australia, and Sweden, among others.
