Sony Xperia 1 V Officially Launched; Expected to arrive in Malaysia this July at RM6,399
Sony’s heralded line of Xperia smartphones will welcome their newest flagship frontrunner, the Sony Xperia 1 Mark V. Their latest offering sees a series of improvements in imaging technology, which Sony indicates in its tagline ‘next-gen sensor, next-gen imaging.’
In keeping to the tagline, Sony piles on its new 1/1.35″ Exmor T sensor to significantly improve mobile photography. According to Sony, the innovative dual-layer transistor on the Exmor T allows the sensor to take in more light, thus enhancing night photography.
This is further improved with multi-shooting processing, which produces high dynamic range and less noise even in low-light environments.
Bringing all this to fruition is the 52MP main camera with a 24mm focal length. This is flanked by a 12MP optical telephoto with a focal length ranging from 85mm – 125mm; and a 12MP ultra-wide. All three cameras support 30fps burst shooting with Auto Focus capabilities.
Upgrades also extend to videography, with the Sony Xperia 1 Mark V rear cameras supporting 4K HDR video recording at 120fps.
Videos also get the S-Cinetone colour profile to grant that professional-looking colour grading right out the camera.
Out of the imaging sphere, the Xperia 1 Mark V is a flagship through and through. It runs on Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and will come with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, though this is extendable via microSD card.
Its display is a 4K HDR OLED screen which measures at 6.5″, coming with 120Hz refresh rates. All this is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
To mimic in some ways the premium grip feeling of Sony Alpha cameras, the Xperia 1 V back panel is ever so slightly elevated and features a texturized finish.
For audio, you’ll get full-stage stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos. There’s also a 3.5mm audio jack if you prefer good ol’ fashion wired headphones.
Powering the Xperia 1 V is a 5,000mAh battery with USB Power Delivery (PD) fast charging, as well as Qi Wireless charging.
Sony Malaysia lists two colour choices for the Xperia 1 V; Black and Khaki Green. In its launch video, Sony did introduce an additional Platinum Silver, though it seems likely we will miss out on this.
On that note, pricing is still ‘unavailable’ on the official product page, and no word on availability have formally been announced on Sony’s social media channels yet.
However, multiple sources have reported that it will arrive in Malaysia this July at a price of RM6,399.
