Sony announces the A6700, to be made available in Malaysia this September
Sony has finally announced the debut of the Alpha 6700 (A6700), the latest iteration of its wildly popular flagship APS-C mirrorless camera.
The A6700 arrives as the successor to the A6600, which first made its appearance back in 2019. It also builds on the strong foundations set by its predecessor, providing iterative but meaningful upgrades in key aspects of the camera.
For one, the A6700 comes with an upgraded sensor, AI capabilities, built-in image stabilisation, and high frame rate 4K video recording options.
Form factor is mostly the same as the A6600, sans a few notable changes in its layout for the shutter and dial buttons. It also features a bigger LCD screen that is able to be swivelled out and rotated for better viewing angles.
The A6700 also now sports Sony’s latest Exmor R CMOS sensor. It is a 26MP sensor and features the latest Bionz XR image processing engine, as well as possessing an AI processing unit.
Other notable features of the camera include a 5-axis in-body image stabilisation, as well as a native ISO range of 100 to 102,400.
In terms of shooting capabilities, the A6700 is capable of up to 11 fps continuous shooting in both its mechanical and electronic shutter modes. As for videos, 4K videos at up to 120fps is now also possible. Interestingly, you are also able to use the A6700 as a webcam when plugged into a PC.
Unfortunately, details on the date of arrival of the A6700 to our shores have not yet been revealed by Sony at the time of announcement. However, given that the camera will be shipped in August to the first wave of countries, Malaysia is expected to get it around September.
The Sony A6700 will be retailing at $1,399 (RM6,400 est) for body only, and $1,499 (RM6,800 est) when paired with the 16-50mm kit lens. Local prices have yet to be announced, so stay tuned for information on this as soon as it drops!
