“Something New is Cooking” with BYD Sime Motors – But What Could It Be?
Word from the rumour mill is that BYD Sime Motors is setting the stage for a new model launch in Malaysia sometime in the coming weeks. Cryptic teasers are already being posted on BYD Cars Malaysia official Instagram handle. Oddly enough, it involves, of all things, a capybara?
An Instagram Reel posted about a week ago depicts paw prints scuttling about BYD’s profile page, along with the words “Don’t worry, be capy =)”, which sort of gives away which animal the paw prints belong to.
Following that, BYD posted another image featuring the shadowy silhouette of a quarter of a car on a pickleball court, accompanied by a pickleball paddle and a smirking capybara peeking from the bottom edge of the image. At the centre of the image is the caption: “Something New is Cooking.”
How all of this connects is still something only the team from National Treasure could solve. On top of that, curious folks can register their interest in—as stated on the registration of interest page—“a new energy #Slaying soon,” along with BYD’s own interpretation of the term: “A Gen Z-powered upgrade of ‘coming soon,’ but with confidence, fabulous energy, and the promise that whatever’s arriving is about to blow minds and steal spotlights.”
We won’t be at all surprised if all of this leads to a new BYD car model rolling into the Malaysian market. In fact, we’re anticipating it. The real head-scratcher is figuring out which BYD model connects a capybara, pickleball, and Gen Z slang together.
It’s now only a matter of time before BYD pulls back the curtain fully. Best believe we’ll be there when it all gets unveiled. In the meantime, we’ll just have to wait for word from the horse’s (or in this case, capybara’s) mouth.
