Have you ever looked at your skin and wondered, “Why is it dry in some places but oily in others?” or “Why are those dark spots not going away?” If you have asked yourself questions like these, there is now an easy and helpful tool that can give you answers.

It is called SkinCam, and it is available on the Shopee mobile app. SkinCam is created by Shopee together with ModiFace, which is part of the well-known beauty company L’Oréal. This feature helps you understand your skin by just using a selfie. Yes, one photo of your face can tell you a lot about your skin health and give you useful product suggestions.

What Is SkinCam?

SkinCam is a skin analysis tool built into the Shopee mobile app. It uses artificial intelligence technology to carefully study your skin from a selfie that you take with your phone camera.

What makes it special is that the technology is trained by skin experts and doctors using real medical data. This means SkinCam gives advice that is accurate and reliable. After checking your skin, it gives you a simple report along with product recommendations made just for you.

Where Can You Use It?

SkinCam was rolled out as part of Shopee’s Southeast Asian innovation push and is now available in 7 regional markets, including:

  • Malaysia
  • Singapore
  • Thailand
  • Vietnam
  • Philippines
  • Indonesia
  • Taiwan

In Malaysia, SkinCam is fully integrated into the Shopee app for both Android and iOS users. It supports facial analysis for users across different skin tones, ethnic backgrounds, and age groups, which is crucial for a multiethnic country like Malaysia. This inclusiveness is possible thanks to ModiFace’s training data that includes global skin type representation that make the results locally relevant and reliable.

How to Use Shopee’s SkinCam (Virtual Skin Diagnosis)

Step 1:

Click on the SkinCam banner (Start Skin Analysis) usually found on the product section.

Step 2:

Click “Start Skin Analysis” to begin the virtual skin analysis. Once inside SkinCam, users will be prompted to take a well-lit, front-facing selfie. This step is essential as the AI requires a clear, unfiltered photo to analyse the skin properly.

Step 3:

Review your skin results once the analysis is complete. It will show details such as skin condition and areas that need attention. This helps users clearly understand which skin issues are most prominent. The tool performs five types of skin analysis, including:

  • Pores
  • Pigmentation
  • Acne
  • Overall
  • Radiance

Step 4:

Add the recommended skincare products to your cart based on the analysis results. Based on the diagnosis, SkinCam suggests products that specifically target the user’s top concerns.

The recommendations come from trusted global skincare brands, such as:

  • L’Oréal Paris
  • Garnier
  • CeraVe
  • La Roche‑Posay

Each product recommendation is matched to the user’s skin type, severity score, and concern priority, providing a highly curated shopping experience.

Is SkinCam Safe to Use?

Shopee assures users that their data will be deleted after use. Consent is required to proceed.

Yes, SkinCam is safe. When you take a selfie, the image is not saved, stored, or shared. The photo is used only one time to complete your scan, and then it disappears.

Shopee follows a strict data protection policy that ensures personal information and privacy are respected at every step.

SkinCam is a simple, free, and helpful tool that makes skincare easier. Instead of spending money trying random products, you can now make better choices with guidance from science-backed technology. The best part? You can do it all from your phone in just a few minutes.
