Sennheiser is up for sale—not the headphones, the company itself

By Raymond Saw March 25, 2026

Sennheiser, the German firm best known for its audiophile-grade headphones, are on sale. Parent company Sonova, who only acquired Sennheiser in 2022, is now putting them up for sale again.

Before you panic, this is actually just the Sennheiser consumer division, rather than the entire Sennheiser business. Sennheiser’s professional audio arm still exists as its own entity, producing higher end equipment such as microphones, in-ear monitors and wireless systems. Instead, it’s the consumer division that Sonova acquired going up for sale, which includes products such as the Momentum wireless headphones and earbuds, IE line of IEMs, the HD 400, HD 500 and HD600 series of over-ear headphones.

In a statement on their subreddit, Sennheiser Consumer announced that Sonova intended to divest the business to focus back on the hearing care industry. They added that the split aligned with their own strategic focus, and that their next step was to find the right new owner. Sennheiser also allayed concerns stating that their day-to-day operations have not changed, and will continue to develop and support their products.

Sonova however was a little more blunt in their announcement. In their latest investor relations post, Sonova simply stated that as a result of a strategic review, they will concentrate on hearing aids and cochlear implants, divesting its consumer hearing business under Sennheiser and designating it as a business unit up for sale starting with its 2025/26 financial statements.

Regardless of who ends up buying Sennheiser, the brand itself remains strong thanks to its over eight-decade long run in the audio industry. While many fans are asking the actual Sennheiser to reacquire its own consumer audio arm again, at time of writing there aren’t any names linked to Sennheiser just yet.
