Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold Officially Announced: Math Checks Out, 3 Beats 2

By Aiman Maulana December 2, 2025

Samsung has officially taken the wraps off its first tri-fold smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, following months of leaks and prototype showcases. Expanding its foldable portfolio to more than 16 devices, the Galaxy Z TriFold represents the company’s most ambitious design yet, combining the largest display ever seen on a Galaxy foldable with advanced multitasking features and flagship-level specifications.

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is Now Official

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold introduces a unique dual titanium hinge system that allows the folding screen to be fully protected when closed. Unlike HUAWEI’s Mate XT series, Samsung’s design places the cover screen on the back while the two sides of the folding display fold inward toward the center.

When unfolded, the main screen stretches to an impressive 10 inches diagonally, offering a resolution of 2,160 x 1,584 pixels, an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz, and peak brightness of 1,600 nits. A small punch-hole cutout houses a 10MP selfie camera, and the panel comes with a pre-installed protective film, consistent with Samsung’s other Z series foldables.

On the outside, the device features a 6.5-inch cover screen with a resolution of 2,520 x 1,080 pixels, a 21:9 aspect ratio, and the same adaptive refresh rate support. This secondary display can reach up to 2,600 nits of brightness and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2. It also includes its own 10MP selfie camera, making the Z TriFold versatile in both folded and unfolded modes.

First To Feature Standalone Samsung DeX

Samsung has paired the hardware with OneUI 8 based on Android 16, optimized for the expansive tri-fold canvas. Users can run three full-sized apps side by side in portrait mode, and the Z TriFold becomes the first Samsung smartphone to feature standalone Samsung DeX. This desktop-like interface can be activated directly from the Quick Settings panel, and when combined with a mouse and keyboard, the device transforms into a portable workstation.

Despite its large footprint when unfolded, the Galaxy Z TriFold maintains a sleek profile thanks to its Advanced Armor Aluminum frame. It measures just 3.9mm at its thinnest point, weighs 309g, and comes in at 159.2 x 75 x 12.9 mm when folded. Like the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, it carries IP48 certification for dust and water resistance, ensuring durability in everyday use.

No Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Here

Performance is driven by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, the same chip found in the Z Fold7, though it sits a generation behind the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The chipset is mated to 16GBs of RAM and storage options of either 512GB or 1TB. On the back, Samsung has equipped the device with a triple camera system borrowed from the Z Fold7, including a 200MP ISOCELL HP2 main sensor, a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultrawide shooter.

Powering the tri-fold design is a 5,600 mAh three-cell battery distributed across the panels. Charging options include 45W wired and 15W wireless support, ensuring fast and flexible power management. As for colorway, it will be available in a single Crafted Black color at launch.

Samsung confirmed that the device will debut in South Korea on 12th December 2025, with pricing details yet to be announced. As we reported yesterday, we’re expecting the price to be at around 3.6 million Korean Won (approximately RM10,135 / $2,447). The Korean giant also revealed plans to expand availability to China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE, and the United States in the near future, with no word yet for other countries. Stay tuned for further updates.
