Samsung Galaxy Watches Get Sleep Apnea Detection Feature

Samsung has announced that its Galaxy Watch series now supports Sleep Apnea detection, expanding the capabilities of its Samsung Health Monitor app. This feature enables users to monitor potential signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea, a condition that often goes undiagnosed and can lead to serious health complications if left untreated.
The rollout follows the feature’s receipt of the Medical Device Registration Certificate from the Medical Device Authority (MDA) in Malaysia. This certification confirms that the Sleep Apnea detection function complies with the MDA’s standards for health, safety, and environmental protection.

In addition to Malaysia, the feature has also been approved by regulatory bodies in several other countries, including Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration and Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority. These approvals come after Samsung previously received De Novo authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), making it the first wearable device of its kind to be authorised for detecting signs of sleep apnea.
Moreover, the feature has also been cleared by Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA), and Health Canada, reflecting broad international recognition of its clinical value.
With this update, Galaxy Watch users in Malaysia and other approved regions can access sleep apnea detection by using the Samsung Health Monitor app. The feature is designed to help users identify potential symptoms earlier, allowing them to seek timely medical advice and reduce the risk of long-term health issues associated with sleep apnea.
