Samsung Galaxy Ring Batteries Are Apparently Swelling Up, Sparking Safety Concerns

If you’re a user of the Samsung Galaxy Ring, you might want to take note of possible battery swelling issues. Recently, tech YouTuber ZONEofTECH – who currently has 1.63 million subscribers – posted on his official X account that his Galaxy Ring’s battery had swollen around his finger, causing it to get stuck.

This happened as he was about to board his flight, which he later said he was denied from – likely because the swollen battery was seen as a hazard. He was eventually sent to the hospital to get the ring removed.
His conundrum has now been seen 22.4 million times, with 3.3K reposts and 20K likes at the time of writing.
Ahhh…this is…not good.

My Samsung Galaxy Ring’s battery started swelling. While it’s on my finger 😬. And while I’m about to board a flight 😬
Now I cannot take it off and this thing hurts.
Any quick suggestions @SamsungUK @SamsungMobileUS? pic.twitter.com/LOO1kSlQUw
In his follow-up posts, the YouTuber said that Samsung had reached out to refund his overnight stay and collected his ring for further investigation. Something to point out: according to ZONEofTECH, his Galaxy Ring had been “acting weird for many months,” explaining how the battery had deteriorated to the point it wouldn’t last more than 1.5 days—and at one point, would only turn on after being charged for two days.

Finally got home after way over 50h of flying/travelling 😅
Samsung reached out to me:
– refunded me for my overnight hotel
– booked me a car to get me home this morning
– collected the ring from me, for further investigation
My finger is also doing well, aside from… https://t.co/40c7l6MASV pic.twitter.com/xSSDc7Dz7J
Many users on Reddit have also suffered similar issues, with one user reporting extreme battery drainage from 100% to 0% in just 3 hours, and that it even became “warm to the touch.” The following comments cited similar issues, which seemed to occur after about one month of use.

Interestingly—or rather, worryingly—many also claimed that when they sent their Galaxy Rings back for repair, Samsung instead compensated them with new ones — which implies that the faulty rings were damaged beyond repair. Not exactly something you’d want to hear about a product you’re supposed to wear for the better part of the day.

In a separate subreddit, another user posted a similar problem to ZONEofTECH’s, with pictures showing his Galaxy Ring visibly swollen from the inner layer. What’s even more concerning is that this incident occurred after only 3 weeks of use.

Samsung has yet to publicly address the issues pertaining to the Galaxy Ring’s battery. Hopefully, they are working behind the scenes to resolve the issue and provide appropriate compensation for affected users. If this is a widespread problem—and it seems to be, based on the many testimonials on Reddit—it is somewhat disappointing that it took a prominent figure like ZONEofTECH to highlight the issue before Samsung took action.
As it stands, this will no doubt taint the Galaxy Ring’s reputation and cast significant doubt on future models. You are, after all, supposed to wear these rings throughout the day—including during bedtime—for them to collect accurate data. The last thing anyone wants is to wake up with their finger in a chokehold, or worse—feeling like they have a time bomb strapped to their hand.
