Resident Evil Requiem Gameplay Revealed at Gamescom 2025, and They May Have Killed Off a Major Character

Capcom gave fans plenty to talk about during Gamescom 2025 Opening Night Live, as the showcase revealed the first gameplay footage of the upcoming survival horror title, Resident Evil Requiem. While players got their initial look at new mechanics, environments, and the story setup, one moment in the trailer shocked long-time fans of the franchise; the apparent death of one of Resident Evil’s most iconic characters.
Resident Evil Requiem Release Date and Story
Scheduled to launch on 26th February 2025, Resident Evil Requiem will serve as the ninth mainline entry in Capcom’s legendary franchise. The game introduces a new protagonist, FBI agent Grace Ashcroft, who is assigned to investigate a string of mysterious deaths at a hospital.
Fans first caught a glimpse of Grace during a teaser trailer at Summer Game Fest 2025, with many noticing her strong resemblance, and shared surname, to Alyssa Ashcroft, the investigative reporter from Resident Evil Outbreak, Resident Evil Outbreak File #2, and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
It was later confirmed that Grace is indeed Alyssa’s daughter, adding an emotional connection for long-time followers of the series.
The Return of Alyssa Ashcroft

The new gameplay trailer not only spotlighted Grace but also gave fans their first look at an older Alyssa Ashcroft, marking her first major appearance in years. In the footage, Alyssa and Grace are seen trying to escape from a deadly encounter. During their attempt, they share a heartfelt moment in which Alyssa tells her daughter:
I promise you I will explain this all to you one of these days. Grace, please know that you are my hope. Never forget that.
Moments later, however, the trailer takes a dark turn. Alyssa is seemingly killed off-screen by a mysterious figure, leaving Grace screaming in horror.
While the trailer strongly suggests Alyssa’s death, fans are questioning whether Capcom would truly eliminate such a beloved character so abruptly, or if it’s a narrative misdirection meant to set up a bigger twist later in the story.
Resident Evil Requiem will officially release on PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam on 27th February 2026.
