Redmi A5 debuts with a starting price of RM299

Xiaomi Malaysia has officially introduced the Redmi A5, possibly the most affordable smartphone you can find in the country. The Redmi A5 is priced at RM299 in Malaysia for the 3GB+64GB variant, and RM349 for the 4GB+128GB alternative. The phone will be available starting 18 April and can be purchased via Xiaomi’s official website at mi.com.

The Redmi A5 is powered by the UNISOC T7250 processor. Despite its extremely budget-friendly price point, its 6.88″ display delivers HD resolution (1604×720) and a 120Hz refresh rate. It has also received TÜV Rheinland certifications, including Low Blue Light, Flicker Free, and Circadian Friendly features.
A commendable upgrade is the rear main camera, which has been bumped from 8MP on last year’s Redmi A3 to 32MP in this latest iteration. Additionally, a larger sensor captures 18% more light, which translates to better low-light photography. Meanwhile, the front camera has also been upgraded to 8MP this year.

Other notable features on the Redmi A5 include a side fingerprint sensor, face unlock, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Powering the phone is a 5,200mAh battery with support for 15W wired charging.
The Redmi A5 is offered in three colours: Midnight Black, Sandy Gold, and Ocean Blue.
