realme 8 5G and C25s Malaysia Launch: Everything you need to know.

May 27, 2021

realme is making a strong comeback with its newly launched realme 8 5G and realme C25s. Priced at RM899 (RM799 if ordered via Lazada on 28th May) and RM699 respectively, the two devices may very well be the budget gaming device suited for you!

Without wasting any more time, let’s take a closer look at both devices.

realme 8 5G Key Highlights

Surprisingly enough, the realme 8 5G is introduced at a lower price point of RM899 compared to the realme 7 5G at RM1,299 which was launched last year.

Of course with a lower price point comes some downgrades in overall specs. Nevertheless, these changes do allow the realme 5G to be amongst the cheapest 5G device available in the market.

Processor:

The realme 8 5G is powered by the Dimensity 700 5G processor. The Dimensity 700 5G is a mid-range 5G processor that was released in November 2020. It octa-core CPU architecture, including two large Arm Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.2GHz.

In terms of performance, it has no issues handling game titles like League of Legends and PUBG. However, for games like Genshin Impact, it is best played on low graphics settings.

Camera

In terms of camera setup, the device is equipped with a triple rear camera setup that consists of a 48MP f/1.8 primary camera, 2MP B&W portrait lens and a 2MP macro lens.

The primary camera has been specially optimized to capture stunning night photos. It comes complete with five presets to choose from: flamingo, dazzle, modern gold, cyberpunk and astral to further enhance user’s night photography experience.

As for the front-facing camera, the realme 8 5G gets a 16MP HD selfie camera for equally beautiful selfie photos and videos.

In case you are wondering, both the rear and front camera comes with electronic stabilization for shooting videos.

3-Card Slot

This particular feature was missing in the realme 7 series but it is now back! With the 3-card slot, users will not have to choose between dual-sim or expandable storage, thus allowing users to enjoy the best of both worlds.

The expandable storage slot also supports up to 1TB expanded storage. Perfect for gaming, photography and videography.

Display and Build Quality

The realme 8 5G offers a 6.5″ IPS LCD display with refresh rates of 90Hz. This is a slight downgrade from the realme 7 5G’s 120Hz refresh rates. Furthermore, the realme 8 5G does not get the same Corning Gorilla Glass coating for added protection.

Even with that said, the overall smoothness and colors of the display are pleasant and accurate.

Unfortunately, the device is slightly more plastic than we’d hope for. With the back and side frames are made of plastic, the device does feel a little ‘cheap’ to the touch. Nevertheless, it is still overall a compact and lightweight devices coming in at only 1.85mm thick and weighing 185g.

realme C25s Key Highlights

The realme C25s is an entry-level device that focuses on durability and reliability. In terms of overall specs, the device does offer a large 6.5″ IPS LCD display with 60Hz refresh rate.

Behind the display is a Helio G85 processor. It is a slight improvement from the original C25 model that was powered by a Helio G70. Although the Helio G85 is a decent entry-level gaming processor, do have your expectations managed as for more demanding game titles like Call of Duty, the performance maxes out at low-mid resolution.

Battery & TÜV Rheinland Smartphone High Reliability Certification

As mentioned, the key highlight of this device is its durability and reliability. The C25s is backed by a huge 6,000mAh battery which is sufficient for up to 2 days of casual usage.

The only slight disappointment we have with the device is its charging speed which only supports up to 18W quick charge. It takes approximately 2 hours to charge the device from 0 – 100%.

Aside from its battery, the C25s is also TÜV Rheinland Smartphone High Reliability Certified. In order to be certified, realme C25s had to go through 23 rigorous quality tests. With this certification, the device is expected to have an improved lifecycle of around 3 years thus giving users reliable quality and a longer-lasting experience.

Final Thoughts

The launch of the realme 8 5G really took us by surprise. Little did we expect realme to change its approach of lowering overall specs to introduce realme 8 5G at a more competitive price point.

Given that realme 8 5G is the cheapest 5G device in the market, would you opt for one even though Malaysia isn’t 5G ready?
