Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 mobile platforms

It seems that despite more and more 5G devices becoming affordable, 4G remains here to stay. At least, that’s what Qualcomm seems to think, as they quietly unveil their latest mobile platforms meant for entry level and midrange devices.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2
The original Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1 was essentially just a rebranded Snapdragon 662, fabbed on what seems like an ancient 11nm process node. While the Snapdragon 6S 4G Gen 2 isn’t bleeding edge, it is at least a little more modern, being fabbed on a 6nm node. No fancy Oryon here too; just a Kryo CPU clocked at up to 2.9GHz that Qualcomm says should offer up to 51% more performance than before.
On top of that, a 20% improved Qualcomm Adreno GPU will offer better graphics, with support for FHD+ displays at up to a 120Hz refresh rate. Other features of note include support for up to 8GB of LPDDR4X memory, UFS 2.2 storage and USB 3.1 connectivity. Quick Charge 3 meanwhile will allow devices powered by the Snapdragon 6s Gen 2 to go back to 80% in as little as 35 minutes.
The 4G part of its name is probably enough to tell you that it’s limited to 4G LTE mobile connectivity. It also supports up to WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2. The mobile platform is capable of supporting imaging sensors up to 108MP too, with video up to 1080p at 60fps.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 4
Then there’s the new Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, fabbed on a 4nm process node. We get a little bit more information here on the CPU, with Qualcomm revealing that it’s a Kryo CPU with two performance cores up clocking up to 2.3GHz, with six efficiency cores at 2.0GHz. The Adreno GPU meanwhile again supports up to FHD+ displays at 120Hz refresh rates.
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 will support faster LPDDR5 memory on top of LPDDR4X, along with UFS 3.1 storage, USB 3.2 Gen 1 connectivity and 5G, WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 wireless connectivity. It will also support Quick Charge 4+ for up to 50% charging in just 15 minutes. And as for imaging, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 will support up to 108MP sensors and video up to 1080p at 60fps.
