Prasarana Malaysia Berhad extends rail peak hours during Ramadan to ease commuter crowds

Commuters can expect longer peak-hour rail services throughout Ramadan as Prasarana Malaysia Berhad adjusts operations to better reflect shifting travel patterns during the fasting month.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook told the Dewan Rakyat that the morning peak period will now run from 6.30am to 9.30am, starting 30 minutes earlier than usual. Meanwhile, the evening peak window will be extended to 4pm to 8pm, compared with the normal 5pm to 7.30pm schedule.
“This measure is implemented to ensure smoother services, enhance passenger comfort and guarantee operational efficiency, particularly in managing passenger movement during early journeys home in preparation for breaking fast,” he said.
The announcement came in response to a query from Syahredzan Johan (PH–Bangi) on whether Rapid Rail’s peak service hours would be revised during Ramadan.

On operational readiness, Loke stressed that preparedness measures are always in place, not just during the fasting month.
“We have set a KPI that if a train is not running for more than five minutes, it is considered a disruption. So we want to ensure that if a disruption occurs, it can be repaired as quickly as possible,” he said.
He added that Prasarana continues to implement predictive and preventive maintenance to reduce technical disruptions. In addition, technical personnel are deployed onboard trains for faster mitigation, while station management teams have undergone crowd control training to better manage congestion during incidents.
The extended hours and strengthened response measures aim to provide a smoother commuting experience for Malaysians throughout Ramadan.
