Poco M8 series: Midrange smartphones built for entertainment, priced from RM999

Poco has announced their latest M series devices in Malaysia, the Poco M8 series. Consisting of the Poco M8 and Poco M8 Pro, the Chinese smartphone marque says that their new midrange smartphones will bring flagship-inspired entertainment features to a wider audience.

Poco M8 Pro specs and features

According to Poco, they M8 Pro is built for uninterrupted entertainment. As such, it gets a large 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery that they rate for up to 6-years of reliable use. There’s also support for 100W HyperCharge fast charging for a full charge in just 40 minutes, while 22.5W reverse charging lets you juice up your accessories like earbuds on the go.

Of course, as an entertainment-focused device, you’ll want a large display. That’s perhaps why the Poco M8 Pro gets a massive 6.83-inch CrystalRes Flow AMOLED display, pushing a 1.5K resolution with an up to 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3,200nits. There’s also full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 over it for scratch resistance.

Under the hood, you get a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 system-on-chip mated to up to 12GB of LPDDR4X memory and up to 512GB of UFS 2.2 storage. For the first time in the Poco M series, they’re using their IceLoop cooling system with liquid cooling to keep temps low. Out of the box, you’ll find HyperOS 2 skinned over Android 15.

As for its cameras, the Poco M8 Pro features a main 50MP, f/1.6 camera which utilises the Light Fusion 800 1/1.55-inch sensor and has OIS too. That gets flanked by an 8MP, f/2.2 ultrawide shooter, while up front there’s a 32MP, f/2.2 selfie shooter. Other features of note include an in-display fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers that they say goes up to 400%, IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K dust and water resistance ratings, as well as WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4 wireless connectivity.

Moving onto the standard Poco M8, it gets a 6.77-inch, FHD+ Flow AMOLED display with a 120Hz and a peak brightness of 3,200nits. Powering it meanwhile is a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 mobile platform, with 8GB of LPDDR4X memory and up to 512GB of UFS 2.2 storage; expandable storage of up to 1TB is also possible. Just like its Pro stablemate, the M8 gets HyperOS 2 out of the box skinned over Android 15.

The Poco M8 also gets a 50MP, f/1.8 main camera, albeit with a slightly lower 1/2.88″ Light Fusion 400 image sensor instead. That gets flanked by a 2MP depth sensor, while for selfies you get a 20MP, f/2.2 front camera on the M8. Keeping the lights on is a 5,520mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging and up to 18W reverse charging. There’s also an in-display fingerprint sensor, dual speakers with 300% volume boost, IP66 dust and water resistance, as well as WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 wireless connectivity.
