Philips unveil its first Palm Vein Recognition Smart Lock for homes

By Timothy Teoh September 3, 2024

Philips Malaysia has expanded its smart security catalogue with the release of several new smart locks designed for homes and offices. Some of these new additions feature Palm Vein Recognition, which, according to Philips, is a more secure mode of access.

This new mode of biometric authentication works by scanning the palms of registered residents using infrared light. It is believed this method provides tighter identification measures, as each person’s vein pattern is unique and nearly impossible to replicate or forge.

Of the seven newly released smart locks from Philips, the ones boasting Palm Vein Recognition are the DDL306 and DDL902. Aside from palm scanning, there are numerous entry methods to choose from, including fingerprint recognition, PIN code, and Key tag. Both models also come with a remote video intercom.

With the DDL902 smart lock, you’ll get a few more additions to the setup, including dual-screens and wireless charging capabilities.

Philips’ new smart locks encompass five series in total: the 3000, 6000, 7000, 8000, and 9000 series.

Philips Malaysia has not yet confirmed the exact availability date, but it should be available for purchase later in the year, with official prices to follow.
