PayNet launches new digital aid initiative to help Sabahans affected by floods

By Raymond Saw December 30, 2025

Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd, better known has PayNet, has announced that it’s partnering with Gobarakah Tech Sdn Bhd to help provide targeted relief to the rural communities in Penampang, Sabah impacted by the recent floods and landslides.

Their digital flood relief efforts have supported over 140 rakyat from 47 households throughout the affected areas. These include Kampung Madsiang, Kampung Sogumau, Kampung Inobong, Kampung Limbata and Country Heights. It’s Paynet’s first digital aid initiative in rural Sabah and the second relief effort overall for Penampang.

Gobarakah helped to verify and onboard beneficiaries through their platforms, allowing them to receive eVouchers that can be used to redeem essential goods. These goods were distributed with the help of Koperasi Wawasan Rakyat Sabah’s mobile supply trucks and local grocery stores.

“The current monsoon season has heavily impacted the residents of Penampang. Our goal was to provide greater control and flexibility in the flood aid relief to the impacted residents. This digital approach in partnership with Gobarakah, empowers beneficiaries to choose what they needed and assures donors that contributions reach the intended recipients,” – Farhan Ahmad, PayNet Group CEO

Farhan added that they selected Penampang through their social impact work CSR programme PayNet Cambah East Malaysia. He stated that they were inspired by the resilience of the community there and that they want to ensure digitalisation will bring them meaningful impact.

The initiative uses Gobarakah’s digital aid platform to ensure that all distribution of relief is transparent, traceable and based on needs. This is aimed at reducing leakages and mismatched supplies compared to traditional cash and food basket methods. Gobarakah themselves are a member of PayNet’s Fintech Hub programme.

Juddy Lasius, coordinator of distribution efforts, further expressed their gratitude, adding:

“I would like to express my highest appreciation and heartfelt thanks to PayNet and Gobarakah for their support and collaboration in the post-flood and landslide relief mission at Pusat Pemindahan Sementara (PPS) ILMAN Penampang. Your contributions have eased the burden of those in need, and your kindness will always be remembered.”
