You’ll soon be seeing a new DuitNow QR standee when paying the bill

By Raymond Saw December 2, 2025

You know how when you’re trying to pay for your meal at your local mamak or kopitiam and you just can’t find the right QR code to scan and pay your bill? That should no longer be the case, as Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet), the guys behind DuitNow, are rolling out a new look DuitNow QR standee design.

The goal here is to improve the visibility and the consistency of the national QR standard, making it easier to spot the correct DuitNow QR code to make the payment experience a little more seamless and intuitive for both consumers and businesses. If you’re a small business owner, there’s no need to worry as the update is a strictly visual one. There are no changes to the functionality, security or interoperability of the DuitNow QR standard, with the new standee merely making it easier to show people that you accept DuitNow QR as a payment method.

This is because previously you’d find various standee designs handed out to businesses from various banks and eWallets, which may result in confusion when trying to settle the bill. By introducing a uniform look, it should be easier for you to scan and pay rather than trying to find which QR code is for DuitNow QR.

“As digital payments become second nature for Malaysians, the trust and clarity of what people are scanning matters more than ever. The refreshed DuitNow QR standee brings greater consistency and visibility across the country, ensuring consumers always know they are paying through Malaysia’s official and secure QR standard, while making it simpler for merchants to display and accept payments through just one QR code,” – Gary Yeoh, PayNet Chief Marketing Officer

According to PayNet, they’ve been deploying the new standee since October 2025, with RHB Bank Berhad, Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, MBSB Bank and Agrobank among the first financial institutions to introduce them to their merchants. The rollout is gradual and PayNet says it will allow for a smooth transition across the ecosystem.

PayNet adds that CIMB Bank Berhad, Public Bank Berhad, Hong Leong Bank Berhad, AmBank (M) Berhad, Bank Simpanan Nasional and Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad are next in line to deploy the refreshed DuitNow QR standee, with other banks set to follow suit soon. PayNet is also encouraging businesses to adopt the revamped standee once it’s been made available to them by their respective acquirers.

Lastly, PayNet notes that the redesigned DuitNow QR standee supports their efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s cashless ecosystem. The new standee is designed to be more recognisable, with the standardised design cementing DuitNow QR’s role as Malaysia’s single national QR to support the national agenda of an inclusive digital economy.
