OPPO Reno5 5G Launched in Malaysia
Launched on 18th Jan 2021, the OPPO Reno5 and Reno5 Pro are now available for pre-orders. They are priced at RM1899 and RM2599 respectively. If you pre-order before 26th January, you’ll enjoy three additional free gifts worth RM397 as seen in the image below.
The OPPO Reno5 checks-off all the boxes for a great mid-range phone, backed with a powerful quad-camera. However, don’t go expecting a mid-range phone to powered by a Snapdragon 888 chipset and we promise you’ll be amazed by what it has to offer.
Key Features:
1. Processor Chipset
The OPPO Reno5 and Reno5 Pro are powered by a Snapdragon 765 and MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ respectively. While not being the latest and most powerful chipset in the market, they are reasonably good chipsets for mid-range phones. In terms of performance, these chipsets are ranked 28 and 13 respectively on nanoreview.
To back the chipset performance is an 8GB ram and 12GB ram (Pro). With this, you won’t have to worry about your day-to-day phone usage. The ram and chipsets are the main differentiator between the Reno5 and Reno5 Pro.
2. Display
To our delight, both models come come with a 90Hz refresh rate. This is huge plus for both gamers and video consumers. With a 90Hz display, you’ll enjoy smoother graphics and scrolling motions.
Aside from the chipsets as discussed earlier, there are also slight differences in display between both models:
Reno5 | Reno5 Pro |
---|---|
OLED, 90Hz | Super AMOLED, 90Hz |
6.43 inches | 6.55 inches |
~85.1% screen-to-body ratio | ~88.6% screen-to-body ratio |
In our opinion, aside from the slightly bigger screen real estate on the Reno5 Pro, the differences between the 2 are relatively minor. A 6.43 inch display is more than suffice for most users.
3. Camera
Perhaps the component that is most hyped about in the Reno5 series is the camera. What’s great is that both models share the same camera set. So you don’t have to feel obliged to spend more for a better camera.
While the camera hardware on its own is relatively impressive, bragging a 32MP selfie camera and a 64MP main camera, the real attraction is in its software. Let’s take a quick look into some of the camera key features:
A. Dual-view Video
This feature allows you to shoot with the main rear and selfie camera simultaneously. With this feature, you can capture the surrounding while also capturing your own reaction in real-time. It is great for vlogging and we’re excited to see the many more creative videos produced by the community with the help of this feature.
Aside from the split-screen mode, users can also switch to an overlay mode. In this mode, you can drag and reposition the overlay screen to your liking. As someone who vlogs from time-to-time, this feature will definitely be a huge time saver when it comes to editing.
B. Ultra Night (AI Highlight)
What we love about the Reno5 is the amount of effort that went into enhancing the video feature. On top of being able to take low-light photos, the Reno5 is able to take great low-light videos on both the rear and selfie cameras!
The AI highlight helps brighten the subject while also preserving the details in the background. Truly allowing you to shoot videos with uncompromising quality in any environment.
C. Ultra Steady 3.0
The ultra steady function has undergo further optimization to ensure that shots look natural and smooth even without the help of a gimbal. The best part is, the ultra steady mode is also available on the selfie camera!
D. Beautification
AI beautification feature which previously mainly for photo taking is now also possible when taking videos on both the front and rear cameras. The AI is capable of detecting as many as 194 facial feature points to deliver delicate and natural videos. Now all vloggers can look good on videos even without makeup on!
4. Battery
While the OPPO Reno5 isn’t fitted with the biggest battery pack in the market, the 4300mAh battery will still get you through the day with ease at moderate usage.
If that’s not enough, it is also fitted with a 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 which allows you to charge the device from 0% to 100% in just 35minutes! On top of that, the device has a battery guard installed to prevent overcharging which will damage the battery overtime. This is especially helpful for those of us who prefers leaving the phone to charge overnight.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the OPPO Reno 5 series is great mid-range phone. It is especially great for those who are passionate about video recording/vlogging, thanks to its various software features. With this devices, there’s really no need to invest in a separate vlogging camera. Be sure to place your orders before 26th January to enjoy the added goodies!
