The first crucial difference to acknowledge is the processors used. With the OnePlus 12, you’ll have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 used by many other flagships in the market, including the S24 Ultra. However, with the S24, Samsung has let the Snapdragon train roll by, instead opting for their proprietary Exynos 2400 chipset.
Samsung’s Exynos chipsets haven’t been in good graces with consumers of late, with many insisting the Korean giant should simply stick to Snapdragon flagships in all their models. Early testing for the Exynos 2400 by NanoReview does indicate that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is quicker, although not by much. Still, it is something to consider if you’re about to pump RM4,000+ on a device.
Moving on, you’ll find that there’s also a pretty vast difference in size, with the OnePlus 12 significantly larger with a 6.82″ display versus the 6.2″ of the Galaxy S24. Both displays are LTPO AMOLED with maximum 120Hz refresh rates, and protected under Gorilla Glass Victus 2. However, the OnePlus 12 boasts crisper QHD+ resolution and a brighter 4,500nits display, compared to the FHD+ resolution and 2,600nits peak brightness of the S24.
The playing fields are level when it comes to each of their camera setups. Although the OnePlus 12 looks better on paper, megapixels alone are not the sole determiner in deciding which camera is better. One of the main highlights of this year’s Galaxy S24 Series is the range of AI features incorporated into the device. This includes Generative Edits, which allows you to resize, re-position, and even remove subjects all with just a few taps. If post-editing capabilities factor into your decision, then the S24 takes the lead here.
If, on the other hand, you want a device with all-day battery life and speedy charging, you’d probably want the OnePlus 12. A 5,400mAh battery is good, but what’s better is its 100W wired charging with support for 50W wireless charging. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S24 packs only a 4,000mAh battery. It is worth mentioning that it is a smaller phone, and so requires a smaller battery to operate. Nevertheless, the 25W wired charging and even slower 15W wireless charging leaves not too much to be impressed about.
